The director spends Monday reviewing and correcting email drafts or reports that require attention, but not their strategic judgment. This micro-management of drafts or synthesis exhausts your capacity for the bold thinking needed on Tuesday.
I have seen many leaders make the mistake of asking: “What process can I automate?”. That is the wrong question. The question that truly empowers you is:
“What non-critical task or decision can I delegate to AI to unlock my capacity for innovation?”
Your Three AI Uniform Pieces
You can start by delegating these three “pieces” of your uniform. These are the areas where AI removes friction without touching your final judgment:
- Synthesis: Let AI summarize long reports, meeting minutes, or email chains. (The machine solves the “What’s the key point?”)
- 80% Drafts: Use AI to create the first versions of proposals, tender responses, or internal plans. (You polish the final 20%, saving the “How do I start?” time.)
- Pattern Detection: Delegate low-risk trend analysis or basic metric tracking. (The software detects the “What happened yesterday,” you decide the “What do we do tomorrow.”)
This does not mean you are ceding control. It means you are reallocating your ingenuity precisely where human judgment, empathy, and bold strategy are irreplaceable. You are paying AI to do the administrator’s job so AI administrates so you can lead.
