It’s not common, but sometimes it happens.
Still, it never ceases to amaze me when it does.
It is normal for a computer system to have points for improvement.
Many times, quite a few points of improvement.
Some are even in the ICU.
But I rarely come across a system where there is no obvious problem that needs to be solved.
Today I’ll tell you why a timely system check can be a great saving for your business. Whether it detects problems or not.
It’s normal for people to go to the doctor when something hurts.
But there are certainly cautious people who have regular check-ups just for peace of mind.
Just in case.
This was one of the rare cases that came to my attention recently.
“Over the last few years, we have made changes to the way we operate the business and we have introduced and changed applications that we use for work.
I’m not sure we are operating in the best possible way.
Could you check it?”
Check that information is secure and meets those ever-changing standards.
Check that there are no unnecessary manual tasks that consume time and energy.
That information is up to date and that decisions can be made with reliable data.
That you are taking advantage of new technical improvements in software to be more productive.
That the company does not fail to implement modern business and organisational strategies because its software is not ready.
And so many other aspects where software can be creating problems for the business.
It may be due to misuse, lack of training, lack of integration or simply because it has not evolved as the sector has.
Maybe it is my professional bias.
I am so used to seeing systems with all kinds of problems that I think that all systems must have problems.
But it turns out that there are many systems in the world that are perfectly healthy.
What happens is that the ones that come to me are the ones that already have clear symptoms that things are wrong.
And what happens is that if the symptoms are so clear, it may be too late to apply a solution.
Fortunately, that doesn’t happen in most cases.
What does happen is that if the check-up had been done months earlier it would have saved a lot of time, money and could have launched the business ahead of the competition.
But I am very happy when that diagnosis does not uncover anything important.
It may look like a waste of time and money for the business.
Because maybe it was hoping for a magic formula to improve the system and boost the business.
And in reality, it seems that you don’t take away anything that you can apply.
But you do take away a peace of mind that you are doing things right.
You are taking advantage of technology in a reasonable and productive way.
And that’s a great peace of mind.
His heart is perfect. Your circulatory system is working. Continue with your diet and exercise as you have been doing so far.
Come back in a few years and we’ll check in again.
If it’s been a while since you’ve had your computer system checked, I suggest you to have it checked.
If there are problems, the sooner you correct them, the better for the health of your company.
And if there aren’t, you can celebrate that you are making the right decisions for your company.
Talk to you soon,
Joan Carbonell
PS. Technology is constantly advancing. And so does the way we do business. Even if your system hasn’t changed in years, a review of your system is likely to give you important ideas to improve your business. In the link above, I explain how.
